SUMMER CHALLENGE

Over the summer break we are running a Summer Challenge, members are invited and encouraged to take part.

The challenge is a variation of the '100 Strangers' challenge hosted on Flickr. It is not a competition, images will not be formally judged, but other members and the public will be able to comment on Flickr.

In simple terms the aim of the Summer Challenge is to take and upload onto Photoentry, images taken in a public place, where the subject is a stranger, i.e. not personally known to the photographer. All images should be new and taken during the club summer break, but do not have to be uploaded in the week they were taken. Photoentry will only accept one new image each week (Sun-Mon)

Members are encouraged to push their comfort zone by speaking to the subject, and seeking their consent and cooperation. Don't be shy, most people approached politely are very accommodating, some may of course decline your request or silly walk away. Choose locations where there are plenty of people about and you may feel more comfortable.

In recognition that some members may not feel able to approach the subject, we have opened up the challenge to allow 'street photography' images of strangers taken more candidly, the main subject must still be a person.

When uploading images onto Photoentry, where please include the name of subject, date and place taken in the title, something similar to "Jane 7 July 2024 Stafford". If you were unable to get the subjects name feel free to give them a pseudonym or other descriptor.

At the end of each week all entries on Photoentry will be transfered to the Lichfield Camera Club Flickr account where you can find them in the 'Summer Challenge" album, to access the page simply go onto Flickr and search under the people option for Lichfield Camera Club, then select the 'Summer Challenge' album, alternatively use the following link:- https://www.flickr.com/photos/200826685@N04/albums/72177720317659106/

You do not have to be a Flickr member to view the page, but an account is required to comment on images. Opening a free account is simple and will give you access to a huge number of public images in addition to the LCC pages.

Please feel free to share the details how to access 'Summer Challenge' album with your subjects, that way they can if they wish see the image you have taken of them.

If you require any further details or clarification please contact me via the forum, and remember to click the 'follow' option on the forum to be notified of any new messages.

We are on holiday in Sussex at the moment so I have been giving this challenge a go. I found it a bit nerve racking at first, and after one knock back, which dented my confidence somewhat have managed to get several photos, (although not competition winners!) The people were friendly and obliging so I shall be returning to Lichfield with a positive attitude to get some more portraits. Give it a go !!
