Internal Merit Competitions

Every year the club runs a series of competitions for its members and taking part is an excellent way of receiving feedback about how you can improve your photography.  Each competition is judged by an experienced photographer from another club whose role is to give a balanced critique of each entry as well as to decide which entries he/she feels are the best.  Points are awarded according to the following tariff:

First:         12 points

Second:    10 point

Third:         8 points

In addition there are two Highly Commended awards each scoring  6 points  and

two Commended awards each scoring 4 points.

Every entry not gaining one of the above places gains one point.  The member gaining the most points at the end of the season is declared the winner of that particular competition.

There are two main competitions, one for projected digital images (PDI), the other for prints.

New and inexperienced photographers compete in the Beginners/ Intermediate section, more experienced photographers compete in the Advanced section.

In addition there is an annual Three of a Kind competition, open to all members,  where members submit three images on a common theme.
